240 windshield wiper diagnostics

Evan's instructions are great if indeed the motor has failed.
Two things to check first. One, take small pliers and push in all the pins on the plug to the motor. I had one unseat on this 87 I used to own.

Two, attach a ground wire to the wiper motor case. Some people have made use of the small cover screws and attached a wire to that body ground on the firewall. You could get a spark when you hook it up. The deal is that the wiper motor has a brass ground strap riveted on to the back of the case. Otherwise the motor is electrically isolated from the body. The ground wire rots off due to age and corrosion. Then the motor quits, and often is replaced even though the internals are good.

Hope this gets it running for you. Happy holidays!
