lumbar support compatibility between years 200 1989

Saw another lumbar post, but thought I'd post this separately.

On my '86, the u-shaped wires that clip into the white plastic carrier for adjusting tension broke. I stole seatback parts from an '89, but it seems that the wires are a different length in '89 than they were in '86. Now the '86 lumbar support is loose, and when I measure up the broken ones on the '89 frame, it appears that they would be tight.

Does anyone know if they changed dimensions on different model years?
