Now I thought was being clever...

This could be one of the reasons quite a few of us drive Volvo's (despite the occassional post asking how well they handle in snow).

I bought my first Volvo while living in Scotland, a 69 144, Automatic (rare in the UK), where there was quite a bit of snow for a few months of the year and the Volvo never ever got me stuck. I did have Vredstein tires on it.

Later I moved back down to the South of England and the first Winter there we were struck by an unusual snowstorm. Of course many drivers there couldn't handle it. One morning I found myself at the back of a long line of cars sitting at the bottom of a long steep hill, where the drivers were all standing around talking. I got out and asked what was happening and it was just that no-one could get up the hill.

So I got in the car and pulled out past them and fish-tailed up the hill and over it. I have owned Volvo's ever since.
