small white box hanging from passenger side under dash- something to do with fuel? 200

I've been trying to get my old 85 240 running again for a while now, I think I'm almost there, and I think my problem might have something to do with this little white box. it says VOLVO on the top, 12V, made in germany, and some parts numbers.written on the front in black sharpy is "86 volvo fuel" is this something to do with the fule injection? when I'm starting the car, sometimes it works, and sometimes I just get a nasty screeching noise , and vibration from the box. I unplugged it from the 6 prong female connector, and popped the box open, some of the circuit board looks a bit corroded. is this a piece I can pick up somewhere? what does it do? thanks
