Electric trunk release in later-model cars? 200 1989

One option I've envied of the pre-1986 cars is the electric trunk release that works through a button in the glovebox. Though the cars with the earlier trunk style made good use of this feature (since you had to have the key to open the trunk) and the later car trunks can be opened so long as the car is unlocked (the big rectangular "button"), I still think it's a really neat feature.

Since the major components for the electric trunk release are up for auction on eBay, I was wondering if it would be possible to use them in installing an electric trunk release for 240s with the later, rounded trunk style and different latch, the post-'86ers. Is anyone familiar with this mechanism? What is required to wire one up, and is there a place to install the motor in the later-style trunk lids?
