in tnak fuel pump 700

My in-tank fuel pump went several months ago. Upon replacement my gas guage stopped working. I tried all possible wiring possibilities and the guage still doesn't work. Upon taking the pump out today (for the 3rd time!) I noticed that the float switch in side the assembly sticks somewhat. On my old fuel pump/sending unit the float slides nice and smooth inside the assembly. Could I have a defective part? (bought new from volvo) Or is it something else? What else could be wrong?

PS- What is the capacity of the gas tank on my 88 740 gle?
PS2- Besides the boneyard, where can I find a (used or new) passanger side turn signal lens? (not the long one on the bottom, but the short one next to the low beam headlight)

THANKS
MIKE
