Hello All:

First off, many thanks to everyone who posted. This problem truly perplexed me and I would have been unable to tackle it without all of you.

Well, I am a bad scientist. I got the new rotor, cap and wires, swapped them all on to the beast, and after a bit of cranking she fired up. She sounds real nice too. The x-factor is that the temperature has been in the forties since I received the parts. I will be curious if the problem returns when the mercury drops again.

I really should have tried to start the car as-was in the warmer weather, then replaced the four wires, tried again, the rotor, tried again, and finally the cap until something revealed itself as the culprit. When I get an hour to myself I will conduct the experiment in reverse order.

Yesterday it was a bit cooler and she took a few cranks to turn over. I cannot help but feel that there is a temperature-induced problem somewhere. Ah, another post for another time...
