Antenna again 900 1994

I'm desperate to figure out how to swap out the mast on my 94 940 sedan. I've read the FAQ's and followed those instructions and also the advice from my previous post. All to no avail. The antenna mast does not come out when I pull up on it no matter how hard I pull. I went as far as to pull the gear box apart in an attempt to get this blasted thing out. All I accomplished was developing a deeper understanding of this assembly and how hard it is to reassemble the gear and mast drive.
The only way that I can see that this thing can come apart is if the tube the mast is in pulls out of the gear drive. Is that what is supposed to happen?
If someone can walk me through how this is supposed to be done I would really appreciate it.
Signed, perplexed.
