Help: No Instrument cluster dimmer lights after changing blower fan. '89 244GL. Console lights ok. 200 1989

Okay I made it through changing the heater blower fan motor (phew), and by using the "take the whole dash and everything else out" method inspired to me by Chris Herbst's posting it went really well... So now I can see out the windshield, it is winter here in upstate NY, but now I can't see my speedometer at night.

My center console lights work fine when dimming/brightening with the rheostatic switch, but I do not have any dimmable lights on the instrument cluster at all.

I have the Haynes manual which has one instrument cluster wiring schematic for the years '84-'93 and I can't decipher it. I can figure out where the half moon wire connection goes and where the circuler wire connection goes, and where the three terminal clock wiring harness connects, but I am at a loss as to what to connect to the two male terminals that are on the lower portion of the rpm gauge right below the three male terminals for the clock harness. It seems that one of the terminals is marked with the number "1," and according to the Haynes manual that would be the white and red striped wire that should be connected there...? I can't find any other wires that are on the harness that seem like they should be connected to the other terminal. I have two "mystery" wires that I don't know where to connect: one yellow wire that originates with a red crimp on connector off a wire that comes from the headlight switch, and one brown wire that originates with a red crimp on connector that originates off a brown wire that is part of the dimmer lights on the center console. If these wires were not color coded properly I would just assume they were put on by a previous owner; maybe they went to something that is no longer installed? SAnd do not have anything to do with the problem?

There is the smaller size male terminal on the bottom corner of the back of the instrument cluster to which I have connected the only smaller size female terminal apparent which is a red and yellow wire.

I would appreciate any help with trouble shooting and fixing this problem. I have had to drive around with the interior light on so that I can see my gauges, and it really sucks.

any $0.02 appreciated,
KPW

Currently '89 244GL, '87 245GL, '83 244GL, & 262 Coupe' (not all driving).
