Why is the suspension so stiff? 444-544

I also have the sway bars (front and rear). The springs are old, 1-inch lower on the left than right. Where can one buy new springs for the 544? I called around without success, and have bought a parts car hoping that I can at least end up with pairs of springs that are a close match.
