How does a starter die? 140-160 1973

I'm having odd starting symptoms. I get the click, but the engine doesn't crank.

The battery, however, is well charged.

I'm going to change out my battery cable terminals tomorrow (the positive is kind of loose on the battery post). But I wonder whether this symptom might be due to resistance from a dying starter, or maybe just the connection there is dirty.

All suggestions gratefully accepted.
