Anybody know the technical difference between the blue coolant temp sensor and the black one?

I think the grey or blue senser is for a 90 or later car. I am not sure if the calibration is the difference or if it is in the way it connects to the harness. I had some cold start trouble and the senser was suspected. In discussions regarding the senser I was always told to be sure I have the black one.

I hope this helps. Maybe some else has a better understanding.
