Tailgate light housing repair 700

The taigate light housing has slipped back inside of the rear hatch (I suspect). I gently pryed my already deteriorating hatch paneling from the top and there is a maze of steel supports back there, and very little "handroom" to fish around for anything. So far I haven't located the light bulb housing or any of the wires for the bulb, but I expect they are still in there. I have no idea how they came out. So I stopped by a junkyard and got the screws, the clear plastic housing. However I still am unable to figure out how to either take the housing off from the outside (above the tagplate) or from the inside (I hope not) through removing the panel. If anyone has done this repair I'd sure appreciate your wisdom before I tackle this on the next sunny day. The shot below is with the tailgate hatch open.
