cutting out 700

Hey all. I just bought a 1990 740 16 valve with 218k. It drives really well, and is in good condition/ rust free. I assumed it was a good runner, but I had problems after about 40 miles of driving on the highway. I was accelerating from the on ramp, and the engine mysteriously cut off (no rpm's, but the cabin electronics still ran). Then I touched the gas peddle and it came back. I exited the highway, and got on to a less busy road. Then the car cut out again, but this time all of the lights on the dash came on (the red ones at the bottom(warning lights)), and I lost my power steering. Any ideas? I also just changed my oil today, but I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. The people we bought it from had the mafs replaced, and put rtv sealant on the distributor. What else could cause this?
