Transmission fluid VERY low 200

Folka,

Was driving at high speed (65) today and noticed my '89 240 automatic wasn't hitting top gear. Pulled over and found that there wasn't enough tranny fluid to hit the dipstick.

Filled it, but was unable to reach top speed later due to bad roads...is it likely i damaged the transmission by this?
