modified air intake for '95 964 900 1995

The air intake for this car is very odd - it's behind the grille and ahead of the radiator, but it's curved backwards, not forward. It gets no additional flow when at highway speed because it doesn't face forward.

I've seen sites with pix of simple mods to an 850 where two air intake inlet hoses were placed below the bumper and fed up to a junction just ahead of the air intake box and air filter, providing a lot more air forced into the engine at highway speeds ("ram air", for lack of a better word !). I've gotta wonder if there would be any harm in doing this on the 960 ?? It would be simple enough to fabricate two hoses leading into the air intake, and your fed air is still filtered (K&N is in mine).

Anybody know of a good reason NOT to do this ?
