starter run on? 700

just experienced the same problem with my 1985 740gle.190,000 miles...the wires that connect to the starter & solenoid were touching each other..that was the short, it fried my starter/solenoid.check the red battery cable connection and make sure it does not in contact with anything else at the starter..you might find the single small wire has lost its insulation and this can be quick fixed with LIQUID ELECTRIC TAPE puchased at auto supply stores..let me know how you made out..thenuge
