Anyway,

While the cost of a tensioner is over $100 it is small compared to a wrecked engine. My 914-6 with the Porsche 6 has chain tensioners similar to this which never lasted very long. True they were half the size, worked on chains with sprockets half the size and so they were stressed a lot more but they definitly had a short life.

I would take any sign of "less than perfect" as fair warning.
