Steering Rack - Line Replacement Needed - 13/15mm Bolt Seized?!? 700 1986

Hi All,

Diagnosed the dramatic leak to the shorter or the two ZF rack tubes on the 1986 744. This is better than the garage reported 'NEED A NEW RACK' on Thursday!

After getting the two lines from Volvo, I'm at a loss as to how to get the longer one out/replaced as one (driver side) long rack bolt is seized. I was hoping to be able to drop the rack just enough to slip the new line over the top and in.

The other line can go in (twist and turn sort of) with the rack fixed in place.

Is there a way to get this in without dropping the rack? If the rack bolts DO come out for me, is this a safe thing to do (drop it an inch or so to slide the upper line in)?

Thanks!!!

Greg
