Intriguing approach, but let me make sure we're on the same page here. Mine is an automatic, not a manual, transmission; is that what you're talking about? IF so, I assume the engage button refers to the button you depress to get from P to R and from R to subsequent gears. But how do I disconnect the OD switch prior to smacking the rest of the knob with the wrench and mallet?
