fuel pump 700

Hi all, I need a little help. I am replacing the rear fuel pump in my 86 740 sedan. I have disconnected all the hoses and removed the lock ring. I can pull the assembly up but the wires are supposed to be disconnected before it can come all the way out. There is three wires and they all plug into the top of the fuel assembly and I do not see how to remove them. I tried to pop out one of the three small plugs and found it is just a grommet and it is welded right through it. My manual (which makes this whole ordeal look much easier than it really is) says to "disconnect the wires." THANKS..a picture would be nice. Oh well. If anyone can give me a hand and tell me how to disconnect the wires it would be great. Also..is the inline pump easier than the in tank pump to change out?
