Knock sensors 960 -96 900

I was just wondering, my 960 feels a bit weak and not so fuel efficient.
Are there possible to somehow measure the two knock sensors on the B6304? Or, could it be checked with an OBD-II device?
If so, what are the correct measurements? Or, easiest way to check their function?

And by the way, what fuel do you guys recommend for this engine? I've heard some people say that they run better on 96, 98? I'm wondering cause my valves are clattering when accelerating. Sound fine when idling. Or is it supposted to sound like that with hydralic tappets?

Thanks for a great site, I visit the board every day to learn something new!
