low fuel capacity 700 1985

Do you know that it only holds 6 gallons or does ir "run out of gas" then only take 6 gallons to fill it.

Problems with the pick-up in the fuel tank cause the fuel flow to stop before the tank is empty. This usually starts at 1/8 of a tank, then 1/4, then worse and worse. I think that I read that a tube splits and then gets worse as time goes by.

A non-working fuel gauge is often a result of a bad solder connection in the dash. Try snapping the instrument panel with your finger right where the gauge is. This always gets our gauge working. It happens to the temp gauge also.

Do a search and look at the 700/900 FAQ - these issues are discussed often.
