960 engine question 900

Hello all, I just bought a '94 960 with 160k on the clock. Absolutely great car, but has some issues :(
First, the car was standing for a year, I changed the oil, cleaned the spark plugs, checked the water and started the engine. It was running rough and uneven but after a few minutes it was better, but I think it's still running on 5. No problem, time to change the plugs and check the spark. Here comes the worse part. I guess the engine has hydraulic tappets (please confirm it) and since it's been standing for a year some of the tappets seized because after 15 minutes idling the engine is still very noise esp. around the no.1 and 4 cylinders. Or maybe I have sticking valves. I'm new to Volvos, but this engine is very similar to my Jags straight six engine.
Second, I can't open the boot. There's a slight ding on the boot-lid around the locking mechanism and since it's a sedan I can't fold down the rear seats. Is there any trick to open it?
Third, the seat memory seems inop. I can move the seats but can't save the settings into it's memory. When I push the mem+number buttons should there be any chime or something?
Thank you in advance.
Wal
