Noise with rear wheels up on jack stands 700

For those that have lifted the rear of a '89 740GL with both wheels off the ground, please let me know what it sounded like when you spun the rear wheels. I just finsihed a parking brake pad replacement and with both wheels up and the tranny in neutral, I spun the wheels. On both sides it was not a smooth spin, The sound was more of a repetitive light clunking sound and the same on both sides. The sound is coming from an area near the rear wheels, not the rear end.

Anyway, is this normal? Should it be relatively quiet or am I heading for trouble?

Thanks
