760 Turbo fuel pump problem 700

Hello Everyone,
My '84 760 Turbo has a very noisy main fuel pump. The fuse isn't getting hot or anything like that. The car starts and runs fine, except for an occaisional hesitation. When I remove the fuse for the in tank pump with the car running, the engine wants to stall and doesn't respond well to acceleration. The main pump is only about 2 years old ( and is OE Bosch). The fuel filter is also new. Could the FPR be bad? When I take the vacuum line off of it, there's no fuel leaking out.How do I check the main pump's current draw?

Thanks in advance,
Dave
