fuse / relay identification 200 1986

On my 1986 244, next to the 25A fuse in the engine compartment (on drivers side), there is a small aluminum box and a small back plastic holder, both with wires coming out of them. Can anyone tell me what these are for, and if they require any periodic maintenance / replacement?
