Story time. My 1800ES has seen snow only once: the first day I had it, driving home through the Rockies going into Calgary. (I wasn't pleased, believe me.)
It was a freak blizzard, and even the plows were pulling over. There were SUV's upside down in ditches everywhere, and the mountain snow around Banff was so deep I could hear and feel it scraping along the floor of the car. It was coming down so hard that an inch of ice formed on the headlights, and I had to get out into knee-high snow to chip it off.
When I got into town at about 4:00 AM, there was not one other car on the road, anywhere, and the snow hadn't been plowed yet. I'd never driven an 1800 before, or anything like it, but it felt totally controllable. I was taking every turn sideways, and loving it. The balance was superb, I could hold a slide indefinitely, and I never felt like there was any danger to me or the car.
Granted there was about 100lb of luggage in the back -- love that wagon -- but if an 1800ES can go places even Jeep TJs get stuck, I'd say it's a pretty good winter car.
