244 dl door problems--please help!

Hello fellow volvo lovers,

i have a 1977 244dl and am having problems with the front passenger door. i was having problems getting opening it from the outside and was told to readjust the latch on the inside of the car. i did this and now i have no problem opening it from the outside, BUT, now the door won't stay all the way closed. if you push on it, it will crack open an inch or two. it will lock however. does anyone know how to resolve this issue. i'm worried that the passenger door will fly open while driving down the road.
