Fuel Pump terminal connectors and Volt meter test??? 700

86 740T: Hi, what is the correct way to release the fuel pump electrical connectors safely without any wire strain. I have removed the white plastic locking cover. Do the wires come directly out with a tug, or what? Don't want to stress or break anything. What should I set the DVM to for proper reading? I am doing this myself as the fuel pump is right underneath driver's seat. I will use alligator clips from the pump connectors to DVM. Any do's or dont's I should be aware of would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
