headrest installation 120-130

For safety reasons and because they were an option at the time (I'm trying to keep the restoration as true as possible) I am considering installing the wide headrests in a 67 123GT. I have read a very interesting and detailed previous post on the installation procedures but I'm still not too clear on whether the internal metal sleaves are already attached to the existing seats short of pulling the upholstery off (I have not been able to feel them through the upholstery). From the illustrations in the post it looks like the sleaves are welded to the horizontal bars. I have a donner 140 lined up at the wreckers that has pretty good headrests and would like to know how difficult it is to detach the headrests sleaves etc. Any help would be much appreciated from someone who has undertaken this exercise previously.

Cheers
Bilo
