cold weather noise? 900

I have a 94 965. It has 86k miles and has been serviced regularly. This winter I have noticed that when the temperature is particularly cold - below 32F - there is a wistle from under the hood. The wistle will eventually stop after 1 or 2 min. However, when it is really cold - below 15F - it will start again during normal driving. Usually this will happen with gradual acceleration. What is this noise - has anybody ever heard this. I have had several Volvo's, and have never had this happen.

thanks
