1994 940 - all of a sudden won't start 900 1994

my car has been driving fine. I stopped to pick up my mail - got back in the car = wouldn't start. I checked the fuses/hoses - ok. Distributor cap - dry. There was no gradual decline - just won't start. It managed to catch a couple of times,but didn't idle high enough to be able to move the car. HELP!!
