How do I check the throttle body to see if it isn't all gunked up and is closing completely?
Do I need to have one of those things that are around $100 and attach to a laptop to check my OBD codes?(Most of my experience is with a 79 VW bus)
I see a short scale, can I check the timing with a strobe timing gun? What is it supposed to be timed to?
I know the crankshaft is turning and I know it has spark. I've checked all the wires and hoses under the hood more than a couple times (The one between the alternater and starter was melted). Replaced the alternater and ams (air mass sensor)(is this the same as what some of you call the amm? air mass meter?)(with one off a volvo that wouldn't start at a junkyard) I've had a look at the wires under the dash. Later today I'm going to check to see if I'm getting fuel at the injectors. Not sure where else to check. I've heard bad things about the ECU, but can't afford to buy one without knowing that it is definitely the problem. Is an OBD check the only way to tell?
Everyone's advice has been really helpful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
