Identification of a noise 200

My 1990 sedan, 114k miles, automatic, makes a noise I can't idntify and I am soliciting help.
The noise is not too loud, but noticible. It appears only after the car is well warmed up after driving for at least 15 min. It sounds like a snare drum and increases with engine rpm. I only hear the noise when the engine is under a good load such as going up a hill or under moderately acceleration in 3rd or in overdrive. The car does have the piston slap noise that disappears after a short warm up. This is a different sound. Its not getting worse with time. I've heard it for a few months or so, about 4k miles worth. I hope its not a rod.
Thanks in advance.
