Aftermarket CD receiver installation 900 1994

I am trying to install a aftermarket CD receiver in my 1994 940 Turbo Volvo and intend to remove the stock cassette receiver, model CR-814.
I already pulled the CR-814 and disconnected the main connector and the AMP connector as well as the antenna --- there are only 3 connectors in total.
I have 8 speakers (factory) installed in my Volvo but my new CD receiver only has 4 cables. Do I have to somehow route the cables through the Volvo external AMP ? Can't I just splice the cables from the original connector and connect them to my new receiver ? I'd rather not disassemble the whole steering column.
My new receiver has 4x45 Watts of peak power and 4x23 RMS. What happens if I just connect 8 speakers ?
