Pandora's Box 1800 1972

Need some help with a friend's 1800. It's sat, indoors, for about two years. From his description (will start and run in neutral, but when running, he can't disengage transmission with clutch pedal) it sounds to me like the clutch disc is adhered to the flywheel.

I advised him to warm it up, turn it off, put it in 2nd gear then stand on the brakes and attempt to start it. Wonder if anyone has had a similar problem. According to him, clutch cable is OK and pushing clutch feels normal. Any comments on what else it might be and what to do, short of pulling tranny, to unstick the clutch plate if that's what's wrong?
