Hi all:
Working on an 86 240 project car - already done rear main seal and a variety of major repairs. Now it's driveable and the brakes lights are nuts!
IF I push the pedal with car off - rear brake lights function normally and several dash idiot light blink plus the rear demist light. Hmmmm When car is on the brake lights stay in the on position - only bright and releasing pedal does nothing. But no blinking of any idiot lights.
I have a new pedal switch (sort of ruled that out as it functions correctly when the car is off - push pedal and brakes light - let up and they go out) I tried two other bulb warning sensors that I had (red can device) one did not work (a dead I took out ages ago) but the two others produced the same results. So both warning sensor are the same - that should rule that out as a culprit.
The nutty thing was when I lifted the tailgate the brake lights went off of bright (with car running). Was going to replace wiring on that side anyhow - so I clipped the wires at the hinge - that behavior stopped.
Right now I have brake lights on all the time and the third brake light is not functioning (that would a help) Is it a ground? Already went throught the fuses to see any were bad including the #7 for brakes. No way that the ignition switch could be involved - done one of those before and no thanks.
All turn signals and even the rear fog lights (wagon) are working - headlights too! What Am I doing wrong??
