feul system problem? 700 1984

I have an 1988 740 series. On the first cold start it runs a second then dies. After each succsessive start it runs a few seconds longer then dies. After about 8 or 9 tries it runs ok a few seconds then acts like it is flooding then runs a few seconds then acts like it is flooding again. after about 15 minutes it kicks in and idles normally. I am not a mechanic and have limited experience. Please help. Thank you
