740 gle stalling 700 1988

I have a 740 gle and my problem is that when I am driving, my 740 will stall and go into idle when the revs go above a certain amount or I press a bit hard on the accelerator peddle. The peddle goes really soft and it doesn't rev at all, the car idles alot lower as well as if it is about to stall when it happens. it is also putting out a bit of black smoke, I think it is something to do with the whole fuel system.Its really bad when needing to accelerate hard from a round about or stop sign! I'm thinking it could be either the fuel pump or the air mass meter. thats all i can think of at the moment. Anyone have any ideas at all it would be greatley appreciated. I'm taking her to Volvo soon and hopefully they dont charge me too much for the quote.
