My car growls at low rpm's 200 1985

Hi Folks:

Trying to figure out why my '85 244Ti "growls" at me in first through third (M46) at low rpm's. The "growl" is most audible between 1,500-2,000 rpm and fades as the tach climbs. If I engage the clutch at speed (coasting) the "growl" subsides. I don't hear anything in 4th or 4th+OD. I think that the growl is emanating from my side of the firewall, and I can feel a vibration through the floorboard, shifter, and pedals.

My WAG is that the tranny mount is bad.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!
