Purchase a lot of good paper towels. The transmission bottom (valve body, etc) tends to continue weeping after draining. Use the towels to "dab" the fluid droplets from the bottom.

Good luck, and let us know how the job goes. I'm replacing a rack this weekend and I

    dread
trying to get that bottom u-joint off the old rack input shaft. The week after that, I have to drop the auto tranny on the same car to do the rear main seal!
