tranny work weekend planning 200

I had a hell of a time when I replaced mine (85 245DL AW70). The problem I had was getting the end of the housing with the O ring to go in to the top of the trans. case. I tried several types of lube on the O ring and even took it (O ring) off at one time to make sure the cable end would even go in to the trans. The whole time, you are having to deal with the fact that the cable is already attached to its mechanism?? in the trans. and there is also trans fluid dripping on you. I tried twisting it, prying it, cussing at it, but it still would not go in. I finally was able to pry it down but I didn't feel right about it.
The problem, I think, was that the part was not an original Volvo part so the tolerence was not exact.
Also, replace the trans pan gasket. I tried reusing the old one and it leaked.

I used the FAQ's on this site. You have to go to the 700 FAQ's but it's the same procedure.

Anyway....the cable didn't fix the shift problem I was having. I replaced the trans. last summer with a low mileage unit.

Good luck
