Kick Down Cable and Missing 'Crimp Stop' 700

I noticed that the kick down cable in '89 760T is missing
the crimp stop at the throttle wheel end of cable. Not sure why.

Does anyone have this situation also? What's the purpose of the stop?
Is it safety -- if the cable should come undone/break at the
throttle -- the stop will keep the cable from retracting at the tranmission
end? Is the stop acutally needed?

And is there a way to purchase just the stop (or subsitute it)instead of the whole cable?

Thanks!
