1982 alternator in 1990? can it be done? 200

It turns out my electrical ghosts were caused by my stereo (running 700-1000 watts) killing my alternator. The local car parts store quoted me 187.00 for a new 100 amp. There is an old 1982 240 junk car thats been sitting abandoned for 6 months by my house- I was thinking about salvaging the alternator. any reason I shouldn't? will it work for my 1990 240? they are both sedans- just the regular model. how many amps would that old one be? I can get a good deal on one on ebay- but it would take a few days to get here, and at this point I have to jump my car whenever I want to drive it. I plan on installing a capacitor to prevent this problem in the future. I've never removed/ installed an alternator, but I hear its not hard. any suggestions would be appreciated though. thanks.
