Brake questions. pads are moving in caliper(vibration) 700

I read the FAQ pages on brakes. here goes I have a 1985 740gle. I just bought the car and it has new pads and rotors on the front. I am not sure what kind of calipers it has. I was at the muffler shop the other day I got the mechanic to look at the front left wheel bearing. From 40 to 60kph I get a wicked chatter from this wheel. I thought it was the wheel bearing but it turns out that the pads will actually moving in the caliper. The mechanic told me that is usual wear on a volvo and told me that the bridge of the caliper has wear. I asked him how to stop it he told me to use some silicon on the pads. Doesn't seem like a very long lasting solution to me. I am thinking that this is also the cause of my brakes sqeaking. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
