Car Starts Fine First Time, Stalls On Restarts 200

Have a '91 240 Wagon (AT) with 185k. The car starts great the first time you start it, but if you drive it for a bit, shut it off, run inside, come back out, and restart, it will stall out. I'm able to keep it running by giving it just a little bit of gas, but if you let off it will stall out again. Usually once you get it moving after the restart, up to any speed above maybe 10mph, it will stay running at stop signs/lights without problem. However, turn it off, and the same thing happens. If I wait a few hours (or till the next day) it restarts fine. Thoughts?

I also need to replace OD solenoid (have replaced relays with no success, although they did come from junkyard so they could be bad -- tried 2). So I will replace this this weekend. Drop crossmember & lower tranny just a bit, clean & replace. Could bad/old trans fluid keep car from going in OD? I believe it's been a while since replaced (I personally put about 20k on it last year) so it's definitely time.

Thank you for your help!

-Drew
