hesitation/surging... why? oh lordy why? 200 1986

i've had my '86 245 DL for about a year now and have been doing all kinds of things to it so i'll be able to do the school commute thing 2000+ miles/week next year. anyways, it sat for about 2 years (still well cared for) before i bought it and since i drove it home it has always had a hesitation and a bit of surging upon acceleration...usually after startup.. my '84 245 DL doesnt do this at all and it has much higher miles. sooo on the '86 i've since replaced plugs, cap and rotor, 02 sensor, transfer pump, fuel filter, flame trap, and the air filter still with no luck on the surging problem. The timing belt had been replaced at 107K and its now at 175K so i dont think that would have to do with it. i rigged up an inline fuel pressure gauge and pressure seems fine even under load. where do i go now? plug wires? coil? possible main pump? i just know that it has a noticeably worse performance than my '84 wagon does...let me know if anyone has some ideas for me, thanks!
