Cronic Dead Battery 1800

I have for some time been fighting with a battery that repeatedly dies on me. I have changed out the regulator on my 64 numerous times- the gen. light kept coming on and staying on. The gen. should be fine as far as i know--but i dont know much anymore--it was fine a couple years ago. I took the battery in to the store to have it charged and they informed me it was no good, so i bought a new one. At that point, i installed it--drove the car to the local grocery and home and left it. The generator light stayed off and the trip seemed to be a success--after turning the car off i noticed a continued glow of the lamp. it seemed to fade but my eyes play with me some times. The "icestorm 2005" struck and the entire car was covered in a beautiful coat of ice- my fault for not believing the reports and putting it away. So i went to drive it again and the battery is dead again- lights were off, radio was off everything was off- so my question is- did i get a dud battery or is it related to the slight glow of the gen. light i thought i saw? or perhaps something else?
