Overdrive, ahh

Thanks for everybodies help on the OD. I finally got mine working again. It was the relay. I pulled an extra solenoid and a wire harness but it took me a long time to find a relay in the junkyard because they had all been pulled by other people.
I thought about bypassing it, but I think that it would drive me crazy in the long run as I live in an area where you are pretty much either driving up or down most of the time, and I have to shift gears manually to keep the engine from lugging when going uphill and manually downshift when going down hill.
I wasn't aware that this was not really an overdrive unit like on the older cars, so I put off fixing it because I thought that it was a much more complex system like on the manual 142 that I had. I still prefer a manual trans and wish it were easier to do the swap.
Anyway thanks to everyone whose back posts I read about the problem. The wire is still bare above the tranny and I have not fixed that yet as it is so cold out. BTW is that positive current going through that wire? It must be right? I am thinking of just taping it for the meantime. But now the six hours I have to drive tonight will be much smoother!
